Using the Wii name was/is marketing 101. Extremely popular, good reputation, more for less $ idea. and anyone can do it. No Co would throw that away. The gamepad IS a Wiimote, with a new idea: a 6" screen built in. Ability to use every past controller furthers the 'value' that Nintendo gives to customers. Nobody complains when X & P use their name over on the next iteration.
