Buying through Amazon, question on adding debit card and waiting time for payment to clear

AFAIK paying with a debit card is exactly the same as paying with a credit card (at least in most cases). I only have a debit card but it's worked just like you described, I think. And yes, it can sometimes take up to a few days for it to properly show on my bank account (usually on weekends though, but I haven't looked that carefully to be sure). My bank shows two numbers though: the one with the actual amount, and the one with these 'reservations' deducted.

Of course it could be different where you live.
