It worked with the DS even though the Game Boy was their strongest brand.

The DS was sucessor to GBA but they were afraid to admit that GBA was being discontinued and all new games would come out on the DS. 

NX is going to replace both the WiiU and 3ds, both these console are no longer going to get much support but they won't to avoid that messaging.
