Again, totally expected. What WASN'T expected was BvS grossing less than $900 million. At this rate it'll probably finish somewhere around $875 million. If I were WB I'd consider releasing the extended cut in theaters to try and draw some people in who were at first not sure about seeing it.
Let's all be honest here, CW had far more AND better marketing. I saw a handful of commercials for BvS prior to its release. For CW I saw one every time I went on the Internet and tv. And let's not forget the reviews. The reviews trashed BvS (rightfully or not, I won't argue here) and turned a LOT of people away. PLUS, while we can argue that the Trinity has been around longer and is arguably more popular worldwide (historically at least), let's be real: this was the 13th movie in the MCU. That ensemble cast has grown dedictated fan followings. People went JUST to see the new Spidey, for example.
That's why I think WB is trying too hard to be different by launching the JL so soon. There hasn't been any time to develop these characters. No one is attached to any of them, exception Batman because... Batman.
