I think a $299 Neo for the start on 2017 is way to optimistic. Let's not forget that the PS4 has only had 1 $50 price cut in 2 and a  half years.

The PS4 as it stands probably costs less to make than an XB1. That's tbanks in part to the less complex APU design in the PS4 and RAM fabrication improvements. Sony dropping the price just once in 2+ yrs has more to do with bot needing to than not being able to.

The PS4n selling at $400 is being sold at a premium. Or at whatever Sony chooses to sell it for when it launches. That's just due to higher margins. I don't believe it's going to cost them more than $10 more to make the PS4n if it's not even gonna probably cost less. Going with a 16nm chip simply means more chips can fit on a wafer. Which means lower overall chip costs. That coupled with cost reductions across the board will lead to a cheaper console or at least one at the same price of the current PS4.

Why I believe they will drop to $299 within the first half of net year is cause by that time they would have not only sold over 60M consoles but at that time they will also have a new contender in the NX. Dropping to $299 won't kill them, they will probably still be breaking even at the very least on hardware. But it will pretty much kill off any competition and would lead to a YOY spike in sales. Let's not forget they also have PSVr, getting the PS4 as low as possible is a great way to bolster PSVr sales.

Just what I think tho lol...... I could very well be wrong about everything and the Neo gets announced at $599 and the PS4 core drops to $249 and Sony gives everyone free games for a year...... oh, and tosses in a free 75" 4k TV too.

lol @ last para.

But I agree with your first paragraph and that's why I believe there wont be any drastic pricecuts because Sony don't need to. Plus Sony will have the $300 Slim/Ps4 against the NX and will be in a great position to react with another $50 pricecut if they struggle against the NX
