This rumor is disappointing, if true.  I really hope that Nintendo is planning some kind of cloud-based processing to allow for a performance boost of at least 30% and hopefully at least reach PS4 level graphics.  If they can then price the NX somewhere below $300, I can see it still being competitive.

Is it really that big of a deal going from XBO to PS4 level? I just dont get why a marginal increase is so important to so many people.

Both will be eclipsed badly by the PS4 Neo, being worse than the X1 is dissapointing because I think third parties are just not going to give a shit with this thing. It will get abyssmal half assed ports from probably half the devs at first the other half won't even bother. What developer realistically is going to put the most effort into the weakest hardware with the lowest userbase.

If it was more powerful than a PS4 (like a Polaris 11 would allow) then perhaps devs would take advantage of the better hardware at least when porting from PC (there'd be no reason to limit/cut effects).

This thing will also be badly outdated by 2018 too, as the PS4Neo becomes the more standard PS4 model (eventually this currrent PS4 model will just be phased out) and XBox 2 or whatever MS' successor is going to be. It's going to be like the Wii U, where it was relevant sorta for about a year until PS4/XB1 threw it off a building.
