hm.. this particular rumor seems less likely as it doesn't seem coherent with some facts we know

we know AMD had 3 "major design wins" for semi-custom chip production and it's highly likely all 3 of those are for the main console manufacturers

for Nintendo it would be crazy stupid to not go with a polaris based chip at this point, especially the Polaris 11 chips with below 50W seem right up Nintendos alley (very small dies > very cheap to produce, very power efficient, ~PS4 performance)

they did make a weird combination with AMD and their IBM chip on the same interposer before, but going that route again for NX still doesn't feel very likely

Personally, I don't get these comments because xb1 is going to end up, lets say with 40-50m, which  is double the sales of first xbox, yeah a 50% drop by xbox 360 and likely half of ps4 sales but still something more than good, and definately a  commercial success!  Some pretend that going from 24m to 86m was normal for Microsoft, so they had to repeat it or approach it with their next console!

MS had a ton of momentum coming out of gen7 having comfortably taken NA and UK, the most profitable markets, and having made great inroads into several "Sony territories" aswell leading to a global tie with Sony

all they had to do to sell 80+++m in gen8 was to release a more powerful non-gimmick console at the same price as the financially hurting Sony (if necessary subsidize it for a year - I bet it would've barely made a blip in MS's financials) , ideally with backwards compatibility to carry all the people over that effectively already locked themselves into the Xbox ecosystem by purchasing hundreds to thousends of $ worth of digital games

and they somehow managed to fumble that
