It's mostly because if there isn't a significant boost in power or some kind of groundbreaking, easily understandable and useful feature that would justify pushing a new system early, people are going to wonder what the point of the NX is -- especially if it continues to try and push that 2nd screen gimmick while remaining underwhelming in-terms of power (essentially creating a Wii U with a slight power boost). If they did that, then it comes off like Nintendo just thought that the average consumer was too stupid to understand the majesty of the Wii U the first time around. And it's not going to matter if Nintendo comes out with a bunch of great games at launch in that situation because you're going to have a lot of upset Wii U owners that are going to wonder why Nintendo didn't just put those games on the Wii U and underwhelmed fence-sitters that will probably end up buying a gaming PC or a PS4.
