I believe that Eiji Aonuma can top Ocarina of Time with Zelda U. Not in terms of Metacritic (that's not the world we live in these days) but in general, yes. Not that he surely will, but that he possibly could.

That's the thing. When many sequels in many others franchises are regularly better han the first games (not particularly in metacritic like you said but in objective quality for many gamers), Zelda games after 20 years still haven't beaten Ocarina of time (3D) or A link to the past / link's awakening (2D) for most players. Newest 3D Zelda are less open world, more linear, the story is less interesting and compelling, story hasn't evolved at all, no twist, nothing really new or interesting. There is more dull padding parts, the game is more tutorialized than before, etc.

Even the graphics are less and less impressive compared to others games on others console, comparatively. I remember when Ocarina of time was released, it was the most impressive open world game out there! The new reference in console graphics.
