I expect a small NX direct. They might have skipped e3 because they don't have enough NX to show and probably are having troubles yo get it playable at e3 so by having a lityle nx direct make sense.

I hope that's not true, because that would be worrying. 10 months until release and they can't even come up with a playable prototype yet? So it's not just 10 months to manufacture enough to sell it also needs to actually be finished in that time too. Not only that but if the console plans haven't even been finished yet then that doesn't bode well for software either.

It shouldn't be an issue for Nintendo to have accurate NX hardware specs in an AMD PC build using 28nm tech, because the processing performance shouldn't be a problem at all to nail down for dev kits or final device release hardware.

Final retail hardware may be using 14nm SOC tech which may not go into full production until Fall 2016 and use a lower level of TDP, but that shouldn't have any effect on development hardware in this day and age.

Launch window games need to be playable and in some kind of Beta state by now if Nintendo are planning to launch in March, there's just no other way about it. I'm thinking it's all a matter of Nintendo basically wanting to have the biggest level of impact they can and they want NX to be the focus of market attention, that means nothing but NX is going to be Nintendo's focus when they reveal it and it's games, that's why no E3 presence.

I don't think we'll get any information or reveals before E3, Nintendo will want the E3 hype to have died down, then they'll hit news outlets with their event.

The Zelda reveal has to come first, because people have been waiting for that the longest. I wouldn't be shocked if Paper Mario was also an NX game, along with Pikmin 4 and that's why Nintendo aren't showing either of those at E3.
