What about the mediocre-at-best year for the Game Boy, the horrible failure that was the Virtual Boy with its shitty lineup, the uncertainty surrounding Nintendo 64 getting randomly delayed into 1996, the instant success of the PS1 overshadowing the 7-year-old SNES, etc.

You're letting the nostalgia of a few incredible, classic SNES releases overshadow the overall period of mediocrity and uncertainty that Nintendo fans were in during that time. As an example, look at Nintendo the company which had unprecedently low sales at the time, both in the American market via NPD and consolidated as a company with only 354 billion JPY net sales.

The instant success of the PS1? By mid-1996 (around 18 months after the Japanese launch) Sony had shipped ~8m PS1s worldwide. Also, at that time the SNES wasn't even seven years old. As for the Gameboy, is it really important what its lineup was in 1995? At the time all of Nintendo's competitors had failed and weren't going to launch a successor, so Gameboy was top dog by default.

For someone who wants to give history class, you are getting quite a few things wrong. And to top it off, you act like people shouldn't have been satisfied with the SNES's 1995. You are fooling around, right?

Bah, this is exactly why I stopped posting on forums. It's just not worth it. I give up----you win.
