I think it means "Read Only Memory".

Yes cartridges typically use ROM.

"Anyways this might hamper 3rd party support"

Why would it?

And nintendo doesnt care, they only care about selling their own software.

Nintendo cares about 3rd party just like Sony and Microsoft because it's more profitable to do nothing and get a cut from a game you invested nothing in. Money is money at the end of the day and free money with little to no work is the best! :)

I think nintendo honestly sees 3rd party as competition for themselves.

Why sell 1 game from the competition, and get 10%? of the cut.

When you could sell them one of your own games, and get 100% of the profit.

Thats why I pointed out, nintendo sees themselves as a software company.

Sony and Microsoft, run their Xbox & playstation like they are hardware manufacturers

(they live off of 3rd party cuts & service fee's).

This doesnt mean Nintendo dont want 3rd party on their systems, just they dont bother jumping through hoops the way Sony might.
