By only haveing to do 1 game, that runs on both systems, nintendo can sell more nintendo software, to a bigger userbase,

without leaveing one console dealing with game droughts.

^ this. Plus if this is the plan, it would be a huge HELP to third parties, NOT a detriment. They would be able to produce ONE game and it would print to ONE cartridge, and voila! Handheld players will buy it because it works with their handheld, console gamers will buy it because it works with their console. They could produce one cartridge for a much higher profit margin. There is no other system that can say that right now
