but what boggles my mind is how you could rate art with a mathmatical metric. 

Well, as much as I agree with this statement, it's kinda needed for such a wide industry.
Some people base their purchases on the review scores.
Also it draws the attention.

You know, the "accolades" trailers, etc...

its not needed, its just used as a marketing tool, which i get but it doesnt mean that rating a game makes much sense
