Oh yeah, it's possible to get new weapons in missions. Rare enemies (They glow a light blue) sometimes drop long cases which gives weapons. So, there's another way to get new weapons...

Do you have the same random chance of unlocking a two-star weapon and a four-star weapon?

I am fairly certain it's the same chances with the higher level items as well. I tried unlocking a lvl 3 item (I think it was 500 points) and I was able to get it with a couple of tries. I haven't tried it with a Gold Star one because it takes 1900 points to unlock. Maybe when I get further with the game I'll try it out...

Also, I think it's a good idea to slowly invest in lvl 2 gear while looking for better weapons, at least until it's at a good enough level. I think I may slowly invest in my current weapons to their max levels. I got lvl 3 gear but couldn't use it anyways. I think characters have a certain number of points they can use to carry weapons, and lvl 3 items exceeded my limit. I'm not sure how this works yet. Maybe it increases slowly as you lvl up.

I would also recommend buying tools from the shop (one of them on decrypting) and lvling them up to lvl 10 at least (I just put 10 ore into them) This will help tasks like pushing, repair, etc, by making it faster.  It's handy for getting the door to the relic quicker. As for the 2nd, choose which ever you like. I use repairing since that seems most available. I don't remember all the names at the top of my head, but the one for pushing is the power glove. You should be able to find them in the shop.

I guess that the relic you get is totally random? Also, are the rewards unlimited or you get a set amount of them? 

I might try some bosses once I reach level 25. I think they're pretty brutal if you try to beat them before. 

Yeah, I am certain the relic you get is random, which is annoying when you're trying to get that last 1 and you get so many repeats... You just gotta be lucky : /

The 1st and 3rd rewards I figure are items such as new clothes (only recolors so far) and weapons. After that I think they just repeat, so you could farm for ore and discs maybe, but they give so little it seems pointless to do. Better to just get medals.

And yeah, bosses are haaaard. I couldn't do it even past lvl 20 @_@
