As others have mentioned, PS2 was only available in Japan at first and launched worldwide later on. However we can compare the two if we start from March 31 2001:

March 31, 2001= 10.61

March 31, 2003= 51.20

That means that PS2 shipped 40,59 million units in just two years, without counting initial sales at launch prior to March 31 2001. That's just as much as PS4's total number including sales before March 31 2014. So it's certain PS2 is ahead now.

Also to comment on your other post i did not include Dreamcast bcause that was already dead in the water after two years and Wii-U is what Gamecube was back then(a little lower in sales). So PS2 really did have less competition, especially in the U.S.

Yes the PS2 sold at a faster rate (doing 20m+ years) compaired to this years 17.7m

You cant just choose to ignore the first 9months of its life though.

If you take 2years and 4months of sales for both, chances are the PS4 is still ahead.

Yes thats only because it didnt launch 9months ahead of time in japan only.

However it still doesnt change the fact.

PS4 sales are still ahead of the PS2s in the same time periode (2years4months).

However it looks like the PS4 isnt selling at as fast a rate as the PS2 was.

Which means eventually the PS2 will be ahead of the PS4.

It really is not if we look at worldwide release. Even if you want to disregard all that and still look at the time period only, you should look at each region individually. And while PS4 might be doing comparable numbers to PS2 in Europe or or even be a little ahead, it definitely is not the same case in the U.S. and no where near in Japan.
