If we re not doing Launch time to date, and sales to date based on launch time. Then the stat we end up getting outta it isnt what we re looking for (is the PS4 behinde the sales curve compaired to the PS2). I didnt write the "rules" or stack anything in the PS4s favor (its not my fault the PS2 launched 9months early in japan). Im just saying if you pick and choose what statistics count, you can make up any kinda conclusion you want. The results are kinda meaningless then.
Yes sales rate, if you only count World wide, the PS2 would be selling faster (it had 20m+ years), and this year was only a 17.7m for the PS4. Doesnt take a rocket scientist to figur that out. But if your talking about sales rates (launch date to date, and sales over it) the PS4 probably isnt behinde the PS2 yet. |
What? I'm telling you that you should align the launches of different regions. And given that we got per region shipments of the PS2, I can easily give you the number for the PS2 when it in each region had been out for as long as the PS4 has been in each region. Just take the first 9 quarters for Japan, 10 for North America and Europe, add them together and voila, you have a way fairer comparison than what you are suggesting.
Heck, I'll do it right now.
PS2 First 9 quarters in Japan (since the PS4 launched later in Japan, I'll align this one too): 9.6 million
First 10 quarters in Europe: 16.34 million
First 10 quarters in America: 22.2 million
Total worldwide, launches aligned by region: 48.14 million
And the gap will only grow. This is the only fair comparison you can make. This way, the consoles have been out for an equal amount of time in each region, and the PS2 is way ahead, and the gap will only grow in the coming quarters.
