I thought it would be interesting to average out the sales per year that the companies have been manufacturing consoles. Sony Started selling Playstations in December of 1994. So they have been around for about 13 1/2 years Nintendo on the other hand has been manufacturing video game consoles since July of 1983. Nintendo helped save then grow the video gaming industry thanks to the NES. Both the PS1 and PS2 also helped grow the video gaming industry in their own ways. Nintendo once again with the Wii is changing how we play video games through interactivity. Thus bringng in more customers to their products and thus growing the market. By the end of the generation I could see the Wii selling between 150- 170 Million Units while the PS3 sells between 90-110 Million. I definately do not think Sony will hold the over all lead in consoles after this generation.
(I used wikipedia and VGChartz to get the numbers if they are off i was in a hurry)
NES- 62 Million
SNES- 49 Million
N64- 33 Million
GC- 21.75
Wii- 26 Million
Total= 191.75/25= 7.67 Million A year
PS1- 102.5 Million
PS2- 127 Million
PS3- 12. 61 Million
Total= 242.11/13.5= 17.93 Million A year
