it was nothing new.

Nobody said it is. But contrary to believe good scores have nothing to do with being "new" but with being good. I mean Galaxy got similar scores and it's even more of an evolutionary game. And GTA4 is an awesome game. Not the best I have played this gen but awesome nonetheless.

This is why I like the 5 star system. It doesn't matter what's on top. If it's 5 stars, it's awesome.

.

That would be fine if all sites would take this, but it still wouldn't affect gamerankings. As you may have seen, they convert scores to numbers. Gamespy for instanceuses a 5 star ranking - and 5 stars get listed as a 10 on GR/MC.

Even worse, when a site does not give numbers, they will give one on the basis of what the general feeling of the reviewer is.

I wasn't referring to those sites. I was replying to the first post in this train, which just discussed the GTA IV is awesome no matter the scores, and I observed that is what 5 star systems do. The best are awesome, you don't need to rank them.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
