The backlash over  "just 256GB of storage " would be more than they want to deal with. And it'd be more from people that really won't buy an Xbox 1.

Exactly plus there would be little to no saving in actually removing the Blu ray drive since at this point they are pretty much dirt cheap this isn't 2006 and the PS3.
