I think he's just teasing.

It looked very likely that the NX would come out in 2016, so likely that I was really close to switching camps.
I don't think anyone who voted one way or another is stupid for guessing that way.

Btw. my first thought was that holiday 2016 just wasn't enough time for a new console. I didn't even think about when in 2017 it would release, just that it wouldn't be in 2016.

Same. I often entertained the thought of how they COULD keep support for another year due to threads that simply said Nintendo couldn't, but it was never really a thing that I put my full faith in believing the Wii U WOULD last another full year. 

The only thing I knew was that NX would NOT be released in 2016.
