If the original plan for Wii U was to make it last five years before its successor launch, then an advance of just 7 or 8 months could have its advantages, first, not rushing it too much, second, the launch should be big enough anyway, then it would have another boost for the Xmas season, and it would start that season already with some user base, increasing SW sales.
