Looking at the forecast of Wii U hardware sales this year. It seems they expected something else to come in and replace it this year.. Zelda now 2017 and NX early 2017 just missing out on 50% of the annual market by a few months.

Either manufacturing issues or software issues. Given how much Nintendo's drought (IMO at least) seemed to hurt the Wii Us momentum. I'd speculate they're making sure the software is there for the console.

Wouldn't be the first time they delayed a console due to a killer app slipping. (N64)

It would make sense but also I'm in fear now. If they are pushing the console just for Zelda, what kind of droughts are we going to face?

I'm not too worried at the moment. As long as they managed the unified platform part I don't think they'll struggle.

It's clear there's not been many resources going into Wii U or 3DS for that matter.

However they probably feel it's better to launch with a fully fledged system seller. I think the Wii U kinda lacked that. Nintendo land was interesting. But NSMBU lacked oomph to drive hardware sales and Zombi U wasnt really a game to convince Nintendo fans they needed a Wii U.

Huge scale new Zelda game along with some other games would be a much easier proposition.
