To be honest I don't think Nintendo really gives a shit about this year. They just want to get out of this year in one piece, E3 is not a big concern to them.

Nintendo had no issue with stinking up the joint for E3 last year either.

There was this rumor got released way back. The whole 2016 thing does remove some of its credibility but maybe Nintendo decided to change it to March just recently.
