It's a wonderful game. Don't let the same complainers convince you otherwise. In 20 years, it will still be a blast, unlike Mario 64. Yes, 64 was hugely influential, but its design is extremely repetitive, it has awful bosses (spinning bowser by his tail in 3 battles...wow, so awesome), going through the same level 6 times gets really old, etc. It is still a great game and has a wonderful central hub and some good tunes, but all of the other 3D mario games (except maybe sunshine) are massively improved and better.

I don't think 3D World is as good as the galaxies (arguably the best games ever, imo), but if I were to replay any of them, it would be 3D World. it is just a fun, well-designed, highly enjoyable game. not every game needs to be genre-defining.

Why you gotta diss SM64? 3DW isn't exactly on point with it's bosses either. Most bosses we beat within 30 seconds. The ones we didn't beat in 30 seconds, we beat within a minute. We rarely lost lives. And you fight most of them over as well.

I get your point about going through the same level six times, but remember that you didn't always go to the same part of the level every time. Many levels would change based on the star you were going after, or have parts opened and closed based on it too.

But back on topic, I wholehearted agree that SM3DW got way too much hate by the forever aloners who wanted another copy-paste job of Galaxy. Coincedentally, I just beat it yesterday with my chick. The game was designed to be enjoyed by a group, and is more fun that way. I miss having a more non-linear Mario as well, but star hunting in 3DW is just as fun, and there was plenty of variety to keep things fresh enough to the end. The collection of powerups were also the best since Super Mario 3. It would have been nicer if the bosses had more challenge in the primary levels, but ah well. Can't have it all.
