| Cerebralbore101 said What holds up from that era then? I'd say River City Ransom, Ninja Gaiden 1-2, Kirby, and SMB3 all hold up really well. The older Castlevanias were really put to shame by SOTN. The original Zelda doesn't tell you what to do or where to go. Metroid was made obsolete by the superior GBA remake. Final Fantasy, and Dragon Warrior don't hold up well at all. |
Zelda 1+2 absolutely do hold up. They aren't supposed to tell you where to go. You're supposed to be smart enough to figure it out on your own. It's also designed to be played with a map, which anyone can get online. SotN is a completely different style of game than the first three. Every Megaman game holds up. Gargoyle Quest 2 holds up. Mario 1 is a perfect game, and Mario 2 holds up. Contra and Super C hold up.
