Wait. Do people actually think that they suddenly started making console games differently because they switched from Power-PC based processers to x86 processors? What makes you think that x86 processors are that big of a difference.

No. This is not true. Nothing has changed in terms of the optimization differences between consoles and PCs.

There 100% is a huge difference between an optimized PC game engine and an optimized PS4-specific engine. The PS4 engine offers more control over the hardware, and uses far less resources since it's made specifically for that hardware specification of the PS4. This is why a PS4 game will look better and run better than the same PC game running on a PC with the exact same specs. Introducing the PS4 Neo will force those engines to be made for multiple specifications, creating all kinds of decision trees and specification checks within the engine itself instead of using hardcoded values. As a result PS4 game engines will use more resources, and it will be more difficult to optimize for both specifications. In essence, creating the PS4 Neo forces PS4 game development to become far more like PC development, and as a result base PS4 games might actually start to look worse while developers come to grips with optimizing the engines for two specs instead of one.
