As of yesterday it's as close to confirmed as it could be, short of Sony publically announcing it themselves. Apparently Sony are now sharing the specifications with developers. And Digital Foundry, among some others, have independently established that it's real.

Up until very recently, exposure to 'PlayStation 4K' throughout the development community was limited. It's a rumor because the source is supposedly leaked documents from sony. Sony itself has not confirmed anything regarding a PS4k, PS4.5 or PS4 Neo. Gaming news will write articles about any rumor regardless of what the source is. They don't verify their sources. Some of you take every rumor to heart. What happened to those leaked NX controllers?
