The problem is that you would need to severely lower or even remove most post-processing effects, and even then the frame rates would be dubious. I don't think people realize how much power is needed for rendering 4k at acceptable frame rates, even with lowered settings overall. Immense resolution with poor effects is kind self defeating as a visual concept, the lack of effects will become all the more clear with a crisper picture resolution on bigger displays, same goes for frame rates. Current consoles will never be able to output proper 4k gaming at decent frame rates, and if they were to update devices with the capacity to do so, these would tear through the pricing tiers like a mad elephant and basically be elite boxes with a tiny, niche market. |
Trust me, I get it. I am just saying those people claiming it would be impossible, it isn't. With VR and 4k, we will see more and more stylize games (a la Nintendo's games) that look great but do not require as much horsepower as the ultra-realistic shooter/adventure game . Check out PSVR titles like No Man's Sky or Battlezone. Heck, games with Gen 7 fidelity would look good at 4k and in VR and if rumors of NX being more powerful than PS4, I am positive they will have some 4k titles.
