Time Trial shortcuts are good to know, and racing in Time Trials will greatly improve your racing abilities. But most shortcuts are only doable with 150CC, and a boost, so they are nice to get a comeback with if you are like last place or so.
If you drive 1-2nd place, your Time Trial experience will help you a lot (drifting, wheelies etc..), but the shortcuts usually won't.
