I wouldn't call it stupidity. Based on what I know by the way the deal was written up at the time accepting probably would of cost Nintendo more.

The deal gave Sony complete control over any game made on the SNES CD.  It was just a bad contract all around.  The only stupid part was signing it in the first place.


 Exactly, Nintendo allowed Sony to develop the thing and then backed out of the contract. So really Sony got revenge on Nintendo.


And then Sony blew all of their accumulated profits on the PS3, and Nintendo are market leaders again.

Maybe Nintendo pulling out of the SNES CD project wasn't really a mistake - perhaps it was a trap to bring Sony into the industry, trick them into thinking that they were winning, and then beat them in the end.
