There's a conspcious three year gap from LM to Metroid Prime Federation Force, I don't think they've been working on FF all this time.

Luigi's Mansion 3 probably started development some time soon after 2013's LM launch on 3DS where the game turned out to be a bigger than expected hit. That's pretty much standard operating procedure for Nintendo with successful Western games -- a sequel is immediately greenlit (see also: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze).

My guess is sometime around 2014, Nintendo moved Luigi's Mansion 3 away from the Wii U and to the NX and within that downtime, Federation Force was pushed to the forefront.

Tabata confirmed that NLG started working on MP:FF in 2009, he said it in the latest direct...

Yes, Mario is a great name and that's why it's a great contender to being ported.
You don't just port any game. You'll port games that you know that can make more money or that didn't sell what it could have sold because the console didn't perform well.

Mario 3D World would have sold millions more if the console had sold more.
How many games have that potential, potential to justify paying for a port and leave other games un-ported?

it doesn't change the fact that Mario games don't get ported to mantain the feeling of exclusivity for the consoles, otherwise you can be we would have seen Galaxy HD instead of TPHD this year...

I never intended to pass that idea.
All i tried to show was that it makes sense to port your better games in cases where such games have the potential to sell more and are games that, despite being attractive, didn't justify paying 300 to have it or some others.

I mentioned 3D World as a game that has the potential to sell more not only because it's a Mario game but because i believe the low sales of Wii U stopped it's sales from being higher, like other Mario games before.

I was actually expecting/daydreaming about a Mario Galaxy at launch for NX. There goes that dream! :D
