Development being spent on ports, rather than on Project Giant Robot NX seems like a waste

Sequel for 2017 makes much more sense than delaying that even further due to a port.

Partly agree but again in 2017 Splatoon would be just two years old and we already have a sequel. Also it seems they want to have strong applying for NX from launch, especially in Japan where Splatoon is insanely popular and home consoles are in decline.
