Because Mario is by far the strongest Nintendo IP and it can keep people playing for months if wanted lol. Nintendo doesn't want to milk every single exclusive they made for Wii U, SM3DW did fine, there's no need to port it... |
Yes, Mario is a great name and that's why it's a great contender to being ported.
You don't just port any game. You'll port games that you know that can make more money or that didn't sell what it could have sold because the console didn't perform well.
Mario 3D World would have sold millions more if the console had sold more.
How many games have that potential, potential to justify paying for a port and leave other games un-ported?

So people won't buy a Wii U for these games (and others that are likely NOT to get a port like Bayo/Bayo 2).... But they'll get an NX for the same games.... Makes total sense. |
Have you seen the sales of The Last of US remaster?
Who bought the game? PS3 owners? No. Xbox owners who changed their console of choice.
And that's exactly one of the reasons you port games: it's not to have people rebuy the game; it's for people who didn't want to buy the game because they didn't want to spend that much money to have another console for a few games, even if they actually liked.
It's like giving the game a second chance hoping that you'll get a new audience in the process.
