if ps3 drops to $300 this year i'd probably buy one.

You can already get a 40GB for that if you go to sonystyle and sign up for their credit card. Its a simple process and you get $100 off. Its the only reason I own a PS3.

Also, standalone players are already dropping to the $300 price point. See the other threads about the new Walmart player. The more standalone players that sell, the more the price of producing the BR drives will go down. I see a pricecut either holiday 2008 or spring 2009.

Getting a credit card just to save a couple bucks is not very wise. I hope people don't follow you're advice because this is how people get into credit trouble. You don't get an 800 credit rating by doing this, and that's what I have.

My credit is equally good.  I just got it for the PS3, paid it off, and now I don't use it anymore.  If you have a little self-restraint, then there is really no issue here.  It helps you rating if you show that you can be responsible with your credit cards.  As long as you aren't a moron and just spend it because you have it, it won't hurt your rating at all.
