If I were in the market for a new Nintendo console I'd be a little worried by this news because, presumably, it means a team will be busy with this when they could be developing a new title for NX.

Makes sense financially I'm sure, since the game has been an incredible success on Wii U despite its relatively small userbase, but from a gamer perspective I'd prefer them to either work on a sequel or a brand new game, not a port of an existing game.

i dont understand this reasoning, Master Chief Collection didnt prevent Halo 5 from being in development, Nathan Drake Collection didnt prevent Uncharted 4 from being developed & Twilight Princess HD isnt stopping Zelda U from being developed.

An updated port of Splatoon to NX does not necessarily mean that a Splatoon 2 or new Animal Crossing isnt also being worked on.

Remasters and ports don't prevent new games, but they can certainly delay them.  The PS3 got its first Uncharted a year after launch, whereas it'll be two and a half years before the PS4 gets one.  In fact, in just five more months after U4's release, the PS3 would have already been receiving its second Uncharted game.

My biggest problem is having remasters/ports being in abundance at or around launch at the expense of new games that may have otherwise debuted with the system.  New games on a new console give it its own identity and help define it.  Ports and remasters certainly aren't bad per se, but they should be a distant second to the deliverance of new experiences, not the other way around.
