That's false tbh as Link has personality shown in some of his incarnations like WW and SS, even TP has this, his actions and expressions show his personal traits, not speaking doesn't mean he lacks an identity. What the 3d games allow is that the player is left up to their own interpretation of the character, as for being andrognous look up Gackt, men can do that look just as well as any woman.
