90 minutes is plenty of time to honour Iwata and talk about upcoming 3DS and Wii U games (with special attention to Zelda), and still have +45 min to talk about NX and its games. And then there is the Treehouse streams.

And because that's not enough, there's Gamescom, TGS (for japanese third party games given that Nintendo doesn't attent it) and maybe even a couple of Directs. That's plenty of time to talk and show NX even for a 2016 launch!

I don't see what you have said stops Nintendo from having the NX in the NWC if we go by last year and going with a 2016  launch then they will use it to promote the NX,all the games that were at the WC,apart from the VC games, either the were just released(Splatoon),just had dlc(SSB4 & MK8) or were releasing within the year(SMM & MPFF) and all of them had multiplayer and if we look at Wii U/3DS games that have come out in the past year or are coming out they don't have many that would be fit what the WC had last year unless the just have Pokkén and have SSB/SMM returning and have MTUS as the games they use,now sure Nintendo could have enough time at E3 to talk about the NX and the Wii U/3DS in 1 1/2h but why would Nintendo spent time on those 2 especially if the NX is coming this year? Also why wouldn't Nintendo start E3 with a bang and have people already talk about the NX and if SE takes EA spot in the conferance line up and both them and Ubisoft have games coming to the NX why not announce them in their on conference(apart from the possible BG&E2) and metion them at Nintendo's event, this would keep Nintendo in the talk before, during and after E3.

There is a very simple reason to not feature NX at the NWC or just at the beginning of their E3 event: they still need to sell Wii U and 3DS games and consoles, and if Nintendo starts E3 with NX, anything they say about 3DS and Wii U will be completely forgotten.

You may only be interested in NX, but Nintendo still needs to make money from Wii U and 3DS until NX launches.

Now, I'm not saying that they couldn't show the trailer of a new game for an "upcoming device" at NWC, but the actual machine and its catalog won't be revealed until later in their E3 event.

The big question: If it does not show up at E3, will it still be released in 2016?

Does that make E3 the deadline when we will know if it is really coming this year (or not)?

Obviously not.

E3 2011 was an hour and a half long with Skyward Sword and Wii U to announce (see any similarities?). It was no where near long enough to get a good look at the games coming to it.

There are several reasons why there aren't that many similarities.

E3 2011 wasn't a 90 minutes conference, it barely lasted more than one hour. And that was with an orchestra playing Zelda to celebrate its 25th anniversary and with EA's Riccitiello talking about that "unprecedented partnership". Neither of those things will happen this year.

2011 wasn't the year Nintendo launched the Wii U, they only unveiled it and talk a bit about the projects they had for it. We don't know if Nintendo will follow the same strategy or not.

In 2011 Nintendo didn't had the Treehouse Streams, that has allowed them to talk and show 3DS & Wii U games with an unrivaled depth and coverage. They can focus the E3 event for the console and a couple of its launch games and leave the rest for Treehouse and later conferences/Directs.
