Haven't I played a transgender character before in Baldur's gate, or was that another game. I guess it's fine when it's done by magic. Ah it was probably the gender change potion in Fable 2.

There's a gender changing belt in the first Baldur's Gate. I guess it's a-okay if played off as a joke or something?

I think most of the "problem" comes from the fact that the caracter is a cleric.
While I see no problem on the choice from the developer and would surely play the game, why choose a cleric for it? Really, is it necessary?

Considering this game world has clerics for gods that range from "always be a good person" to "I demand human sacrifice daily!", it doesn't really strike me as an issue to be honest.

Imagine someone were to take the next season of Game of Thrones, and just completely switch up already established characters, really just force the narrative in there in a ham-fisted manner, just because it's a social issue.   You think that'd be welcomed with open arms?   No, no I don't think so.

Well I think it's fair to say most hated the changes to the Sansa storyline.

In Legend of Zelda, there was a transgender character(Sheik), in a time where they were less accepted than now. Did people bash on it? No, because the writers didn't make it where it's, "Hey, I'm transgender, and make it obvious for anyone but complete idiots".

Sheik isn't transgender. She was supposedly a transvestite, but 1) women dressing as men to fight is a very old trope and 2) it was hardly a shock when her real identity was revealed.
