FFXV's biggest hurdle is apathy towards the FF franchise. Though I think the recent FF fanservice has helped a great deal.
There are certainly some fans that have hung on from the SNES/PS1/PS2 days, but many haven't. Departures from the series' SNES/PS1/PS2 roots with each edition have had the series see declining sales. And as great as FFXV looks to FF fans that have hung in there, I think there are millions more lapsed FF who frankly don't give damn as of yet.
Then there are many others who probably don't realize you don't need to play a dozen other different FF games to get the hook of this one.
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016
