ps3 sales WILL pick up (they are doing so already) and will eventually sell massivley worldwide, its only in its second year and some people still write it off lol

going into xmas 2009 it will move collosus amounts for sure, and if a possible £199 price point can be reached at that time, well all i can say theres nothing better for the money.

PS3 sales are not on the rise right now, its been selling at a steady rate pretty much all year with the exception of GTA IV launch week, and it has returned almost completely to normal the following week. There is a very slight uptrend there, but both the PS3 and 360 are experiencing it as of the most recent data.

Whats the average weekly sales for the PS3 so far this year anyway? I mean it is much, much better than last year!

Here is some data you might find interesting, it actually does a good job of explaining why the PS3 has improved but is selling at a steady pace right now nonetheless. First we have data for the lifetime of all three consoles:

WW LTD
  Xbox 360 Playstation 3 Wii
Mean 146k 160k 335k
Median 109k 127k 275k
1st Quartile 83k 79k 235k
IQR 74k 111k 136k
3rd Quartile 157k 190k 371k
Std. Dev. 107k 119k 193k
Min 61k 49k 150k
Max 611k 615k 1,468k

Next we have data for post-holidays:

Post-Holidays '07
  Xbox 360 Playstation 3 Wii
Mean 151k 201k 345k
Median 135k 189k 318k
1st Quartile 128k 178k 273k
IQR 32k 19k 105k
3rd Quartile 160k 196k 378k
Std. Dev. 38k 49k 103k
Min 117k 153k 212k
Max 264k 359k 668k

I will point out that in terms of indicators for the "normal" performance of a console I usually prefer median values. I point this out here because it shows that lifetime the PS3 median was around 127k and the Post-Holiday median is 189k. The PS3 increase happened from October through December. The increase has stopped for now though and the PS3 is simply peforming at a higher sales level than it was last year...it is not however increasing.

Enjoy the tables~
