Unfortunately, that's not diversification. That's erasing your perfectly fine character because you aren't confident that a woman can carry the franchise forward, and instead, resort to the cliche male that you know will cater to the common denominator = more sales.
It was bad enough with Samus being extremely dependent on a white male in Other M, but at least we were still playing as Samus. But they went the extra mile know and remove Samus altogether. It shows their lack of confidence in diversified characters and rather go back to the patriarchal archetypes.
