When Nintendo follows the whims of the industry, no one cares and sales falter.

When Nintendo does their own thing, the Nintendo thing, people are excited and sales go up.

They don't need VR to be successful or relevant. The don't need to be a me too company. They just need to be Nintendo again.

If that's true, then explain the Wii U...And what exactly does "just need to be Nintendo" mean??

So Microsoft/Samsung/Google/Apple arent competition because they target different markets. The same can be said for Oculus & Vive, those are for high-end PCs which is an entirely different market from Nintendo so that leaves just Sony with PSVR. Basically what your saying is that Sony is doing so Nintendo is doomed if they dont?

Ok i can agree that Bayonetta & Devil's Third didnt really catch on but neither did Ico or Silent Hill (hasnt sold over 1 million in 15 years) so you are contradicting yourself, the only title you listed that is somewhat relevant is Dark Souls which does around 2-3 million.

Also Nintendo thinks that half-naked women is mature? You do realize that they have been getting alot flak lately for minimizing the amount of revealing outfits in games?

Im confused about the Metal Gear statement, are you saying they do or dont utilize half-naked women? Because if your saying they dont than you have no idea what you're talking about.

If Sony are the only competition in the console market, that means Nintendo is in a good place to challenge them because the market surely won't be saturated and will allow for innovation.

If you look at the hype for Silent Hills, there is clearly the market there, and the same goes for the Ico series (Last Guardian). That is when Japanese gaming is at it's best for a general western audience.

Has the criticism about Nintendo actually come from a good industry source like shareholders or just people on forums whining?

As for Metal Gear, see the below:

To be fair thats really only one game in the series where they went over the top with the half naked chick, the difference is the series is not known for that and thats not why people like to play those games in the first place, its just one part of a very large machine and not even an important one. Bayonetta the whole character is her being essentially naked covered in her own hair. Big difference

ya, i never said Nintendo shouldnt invest in VR, i said its not required of them. If they want to fight Sony for VR dominance than they can go ahead and do that but to say its required of them is false.

Internet hype means nothing, it doesnt accuretely determine success among the general market. Silent Hill has sold over 1 million in 15 years and has never sold over 2 million same goes for Ico Series so there is nothing that suggests hype will actually make these games sell extremely well.

And i addressed Oniyides point.
