With regards to Palmyra, as already noted it is located in central Syria to the east of Homs. It was also a major stronghold that with the aid of the Russians the Syrians have been able to take back. So kudos to anyone that's effectively able to take ISIS on.

Look, it's a fact that Russia entered Syria and attacked the anti-Assad rebels, but knowing the importance of propaganda and PR war, they sent around 10% of their bombs at ISIS and made sure to point every single one of those attacks to the Western media. Lets put this one to rest once and for all - in Syria, Russia is not fighting on the side of the West. They have their own agenda that's contrary to ours and no, they are not helping us. We are pulling the line against each other and despite the fact that we're not shooting at each other, Russia and the West are on the other sides of this war.

I don't think anyone claimed that Russia doesn't have an agenda or is not pursuing its own national interests.

However,  where I disagree is that what Russia is doing is against western interests, at least when it comes to fighting ISIS and Nusra(Al-Qaeda).

Sure they are supporting Assad but when it comes to dead jihadis it is a win-win scenario.

I can see why you may view Russia as the enemy as a Pole but the situation in Syria is a lot more complicated than for example in the Ukraine.
