PS4 will stay relevant through these tiered upgrades until a true generational leap can take place.

This PS4K will easily be as powerful as the HD7970 which had ~4TF of performance. It should also move to 16GB of RAM.

With those stats, PS4 Spec 2 will hold its own with the big boys for another 3 - 4 years. Then a PS4 Spec 3 should take its place until the PS5 is released.

The original PS4 will continue to see support throughout the entire life cycle, as it is more than capable of continuing to output 900p/30fps games  that are closer to the 1440p and 4K of the Spec 2 & 3 PS4's than the PS3/360 versions where in comparison to PS4/XBO titles. This will be a lot easier task than when devs where building for PS3/PS4/360/XBO/PC, as the tech between PS4 & XBO's upgrades will be nearly identical compared to the techs of those platforms.

Damn, all of this because people are too ignorant to get a PC.

I thought consoles were about ease of use, too bad that's not been the case since PS2 era ended.

You know, buy a console, plug it in, put in a disc and play.

I don't think ignorance has anything to do with it. There are a lot of reasons people don't want PC's hooked up to their TV. I had a PC hooked up to my TV for a good two years, but it was such a cumbersome experience that I decided to get rid of it. Here are my reasons why I will always use PlayStation and Xbox over PC.

 1. The PC Tower - A PC that is better than the consoles is way to big for the living room or the bedroom. Even as a hardcore gamer, I just can't justify it being anywhere but the office. Plus I was told by someone very important, that the gaming is fine, but the PC needs to go in the office, or get sold.

2. The Constant Updates - Even using the PC every day, the thing is in constant need of updates. Steam, Skype, Macfee/Norton, Nvidia's Geforce Experience, GPU Drivers, Windows Updates, EA Origins, and the list goes on, and on, and on.

3. The Fractured Ecosystem - There is no one spot to get content. Having to have a Steam account, a MS account, an EA account, a Security Software account, all of it is just to much of a hassel, when on Xbox and PlayStation, all I need is the one account.

4. The Controlers - I am not a fan of the K&M set-up. It is great for some devices, but not for most. My preffered controller is the DS4, and at the time I was using it, I had to be teathered to the PC, and run a secondary app.

5. The Noise - I had a tower with a GTX 760. The thing sounded like I had a box fan all the time, this is a major distraction in slower paced horror games, and watching any video content.

6. The Integration - With PS4 and XBO I can run my entire system on one remote for non gaming applications, this is was not possible when I was using my PC.

7. Very Limited Couch Co-op/Multiplayer -  I know your article stated this as something consoles have lost, but I completely disagree. I have people over constatly playing Rocket League, Street Fighter, MLB The Show, Madden, Fifa, Pixel Junk Shooter, Dead Nation, Little Big Planet, and a lot more.

8. Fractured Online Community- PC just can not compete with the connected nature of PSN and XBL. When I am on PS4 or XBO I can quickly and easily see who's online, and what they are doing. On PC I never know who's on, because, even if they are on, they could be in any one of these fractured services.

That is why I won't go back to PC. I know how to use the system, and I know their are work arounds to some if not all of the things I listed, but that just means I have to do more work to get to the experience I want. That is something I am not going to waste my time with, even as someone who spends a good part of my time, gaming, playing with electronics, trying out new devices, watching videos about tech, reading about tech, and commenting on message boards about tech. If I am not willing to deal with it, then there stands a good chance that a good number of people that have no interest in the tech, and just want a good and simple experience are not willing to put up with it either.
