I asked my colleagues and they all had different answers and different opinions, so whose opinion is the right one? I mean we decide this after all, right?

Personally i would say Gameboy is a dual-generation device, 4th & 5th generation.
It released in the same general timeframe as Sega Genesis & Super Nintendo and it recieved a successor around the same time that Playstation 2, Gamecube & Xbox released.
In my opinion, that is the best way to catagorize Gameboy.

But that's exactly my point isn't it? If this generation thing was so cut and dry, how can one device possibly span two generations? If the gameboy can span two generations, why can't other consoles?
