Would Nintendo survive if they went 3rd party?

Make a dedicated console aimed for people of a young age and it might do alright.

Yes, they could survive. And they'd thrive. The future would be better if they stayed first-party, though. I like that Nintendo is the only first party that tries to set its consoles apart from the competition in a  considerable way, even if it sometimes results in the lack of competitiveness to begin with. This is something that I hope they can fix with the NX, but we'll see. 

 

Well that's how consoles USED to be. Atari, Hudson, and Sega all used to depend on 1st party to sell thier consoles. Back in the day every console was different. Nintendo is the last of these kind of console manufacturers.
