I think the issue is pretty obvious with the Man of Steel and now this: Zack Snyder. he can do certain things FAIRLY well, like adapting underappreciated (relatively) graphic novels (Watchmen / Sucker Punch) or with doing an interesting take on effects (300), but Man of Steel and now likely B v S really show that he just not is a well rounded director. All he seems good at these days is making big cool CGI fight scenes, but that's useless if you can't well pace a story or get the dramatic directing end of it done correctly. I don't think Snyder can tell a story very well. If you look at his arguably best film, 300, it was an extremely simple narrative placed around tons of awesome set pieces and action sequences. Good acting and pacing wasn't really key (although Gerald Butler was perfect for his role). They needed to either go with a fun director who would take this less seriously OR a director like Christopher Nolan. Picking Zach Snyder repeatedly is just a mistake. I actually liked Man of Steel OKAY but in the end its a rather shallow film that just waits for the next fight scene over and over again (from the viewer's perspective) I'm not surprised. hire a new director, possibly even an up and comer who has something to prove. Snyder has gotten progressively worse overtime, his latest films are a far cry of the quality from 300/Watchmen
Note: I do think Snyder did a great job with Watchmen, so much so that you have to wonder if a lot of others were involved in the forefront of that considering it was paced and told 99.9% better than any of his other stuff
I don't think the actors or plot are necessarily the issue with this. Although it does seem absurd to introduce all of these heroes together without giving them a solo appearance in a solid individual film yet (Affleck Batman and Wonder Woman) |
Watchmen is damn near a master peice.
Its weird to think the same guy that did that, made Man of Steel.
