I agree for the most part. The only fork in the road is Nintendo. True, Nintendo might have patents for upgradable consoles and I would welcome it. But they are still dead set on making new experiences which more than likely require new hardware components. For PS and XB, upgradable consoles will basically be PCs with proprietary controllers, which I wouldn't mind as long as there are exclusives. I wonder what the future holds for consoles vs. PC. I feel that eventually they'll hit a stalemate in terms of graphical and performance capability. There are 2 types of upgradable consoles that could be made: 1: DIY Hardware Upgradable An upgradable console would be interesting, however it would have to be developed first for dummies. Most likely, the majority of people who own consoles don't know how to build a computer. A console is still a computer. If an upgradable console is made, it have to be fool proof. 2: Prebuilt Upgradable I think this is more like the PS 4.5. This would be the more appealing choice. It'd be basically the same build with better specs. I think this is stable and would be a much better way to approach a console generation. But as you said, it'd be the end of generations which I think is a good idea. However, as I said, NIntendo usually requires new hardware for each console. Unless they break that mentality soon, they'll be doing it the old fashioned way for a while. |
Yeah that's the route I'd like to see if Sony and MS go down the upgradeable hardware route.
