You're looking at it wrong.  The cord is connected to the top of the controller.

Oh, so if this is true, your hands obscure the sensor bar and camera! Perfect for external game uses. It that's the top dude, the camera and sensor bar would be at the bottom and pretty awkward and near impossible to comfortably use.
